The most obvious feature of lead acid battery is that there are sealed plastic covers on the top that can be turned on and there are some ventholes on the top. The hole were used for adding pure water, checking electrolyte and exhausting gases. Theoretically, the electrolyte’s density and liquid level of lead acid batteries should be checked before maintaining, distilled water should be added into the battery groove if lack of water. With the development of manufacture technology of storage batteries, lead acid batteries have developed to lead acid maintenance-free batteries and gel maintenance-free batteries and there is no need in adding electrolyte or distilled water in the use of batteries. Oxygen the positive plates produced can be absorbed by the negative plates to forming a oxygen cycle and preventing water’s reduction. Lead acid batteries were used for applications like tractor, tricycle and vehicle starting while maintenance-free lead acid batteries have a wider application such as UPS, emergency lighting and backup generator starting. According to application needs, lead acid batteries fall into two categories: constant current discharge(like UPS) and instantaneous discharge(like vehicle starting).

    During the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, the market scale of domestic lead acid batteries expanded rapidly, the capacity increased rapidly at a speed of 120% every year and total scale has increased twice. China’s lead acid batteries production in 2016 increased by 11% to 22.4 million KVAH when compared with 70 million KVAH production in 2005, sales amount increased by 8% to 139 billion.
